About hmmm let's say 4 years ago a friend and I started to create such a planet, using aD&D rules, sea elves, modified races and an greek type island economy but never had time to finish it, he was kicked out of the universe (university) and we started to see each other less. We were both SF fans, using D&D rules did not work well etc. Thus, this is very interesting for me, I have to see what did imagine others in such a possible world. Sorry, I wasn't too clear on that. When I said "pocket," I meant trapped under the ground, and close enough that it could be tapped into easily... or, in the case of my adventure, opened up by mining, releasing a large amount of fresh water into the surrounding area. I'd imagine that such a release would cause at least a slight change in the ecology of the area, which is the focus of the adventure. I vaguely remember seeing something about such a pocket on "SeaQuest" years ago, but I'm hesitant to rely on that for my technical knowledge. I suppose releasing all that fresh water would form one of those lenses, though. I'll have to keep that in mind. Maybe I'm just making this too complicated, but my players have an amazing eye for detail. Fortunately, none are on this list. I imagine privateers would be quick to catch onto the Newcomer influx and exploit them. There'd be boarding which are for newcomers and hange a fortune and then there'd be those, slightly more obscure, that cater to the verteran colonists. The latter would be cheaper. As far as Poseidon is being governed, they also are showing sign of a positive imigration policy. IOW, promote the influx of people therefore lower setup costs to attract them. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. On Earth, synthetics will be more common, but on Poseidon, there would probably still be some economically sound applications for petroleum--such as machine lubricants. In fact, I ran a scenario in my ecoterrorist campaign in which the PCs were ordered to plant "pheromone charges" along the supports of an offshore rig that NIS had just brought online. The idea was that the charges would attract greater whites and work them into a frenzy, and they'd then destroy the rig doing what they do best. In any case, because of the still-minimal level of industrial activity on Poseidon, I'd suggest that petroleum drilling and transport would be fairly uncommon. Perhaps a few major Incorporate--like Hanover and NIS, who have long-term industrialization plans--would find it less expensive than shipping in synthetics from the Solar System. That should be enough, though, to give you your oil spill. -- Greg Benage Biohazard Games http://www.biohazardgames.com/ *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. Happy New Year! I got a few questions that have been rattling around in my head like dirty dishes in a busboys tub. If any of these questions are answered in the book could someone point em out to this lazy reader. First off, how long to fins live? I have read that real life dolphins can live up to 20 years. Has their life span been increased during the Uplift process? If so how much? Why are there no Gauss weapons? With room temprature superconductors and power cells being relatively common in Blue Planet I would think it would be quiet feasible to build hand held gauss weapons. Experimental rail guns have already been built by the US Army (or was it someone else?)... Is it because of *gasp* game balance or will they be included in the upcoming Tech book? What exactaly do fins drink at a tavern and how do they drink it with out hands? :) I would think they would stay away from carbonated beverages for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance for any answers. -- Enjoy, Ndege _______________________________ Every dogma has its day. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
