There should be some discussion of species differentiation. And the various Orca communities and social values will be explored. > A description of the Fin communities on Earth would benefit not only in the > generation of BP characters but would also make the sourcebook a worthwhile > complement to A World of Hurt. This may be less likely to happen. Not because I don't want to do it, but because space is -- unfortunately -- limited. I'd rather give a really solid treatment of the Cetaceans on Poseidon and be able to come back and do the one on Earth properly later -- rather than trying to cover both and blowing 'em both. Yes, but my point is that it is neither claimed nor registered in any of the resources I have access to. The fact that it is claimed in GURPS Uplift (but none of his other books, to my knowledge) is interesting. From: ChrisTheS [stormsurge@stormsurge.org] Sent: Saturday, January 06, 2001 11:09 PM To: blue_planet@lists.ient.com Subject: [BLUE PLANET] - Sonar usage I couldn't find this anywhere in the PG, so I'll ask it here... I'm assuming that the way of using sonar in game terms would be to have the target number for detection be a combination of the sonar operator's ability and the sonar suite's rating. I'm thinking that for an active sweep it would be sonar operator's awareness and Electronics skill plus the sonar rating. Of course, for a passive sweep it wouldn't be possible to detect something at all unless it was making noise, but then should there also be a penalty on top of that, or something of that nature? On a related topic, I've written up that bit of sonar imaging masking technology that I was talking about earlier (fortunately my dad had some traning with sonar from the Coast Guard and so was able to assure me that it could actually be done) and uploaded it to Storm Surge, so if anyone wants to upgrade their stealth submersibles... :) -- ChrisTheS *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
