In fact, though, the new I would actually like to see the mechanic in the GM's book; one of the things I liked about 1ed character generation was that the players could generate a character without ever seeing the rules (no min-maxing AT ALL). I try to keep the rules transparent to my players, and it's pretty easy under the current system. > system will likely require a smaller page count than that in BP1, and > since each volume is targeted at 256 pages, there will be lots of > other stuff in there too. Sounds good -- particularly the hardcover, although that's contingent on the binding being solid; I just got GURPS Traveller, and the spine's already falling apart. "Did I say that? They even have catalogs for equipment parts. Oh and if those weren't enough here's some more: http://www.army-technology.com/ http://www.airforce-technology.com/ I was checking out the army one and ran across a company from switzerland selling silencers for a wide range of guns including sniper rifles. Kinda suprised to see this stuff advertized online. I really like the Shallow Water Attack Submarines, minisubs with a crew of 8. Maybe I'll get ahold of the contractor and inquire about purchasing one and invite everyone along for a cruise. :-) Mmmm.... lotsa fun stuff to think about working into a game now like Limpet Charges. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chad Chirhart seahawk@visi.com http://www.visi.com/~seahawk ArM Code 1.2 4+ R+ H+ SG++ G Y6 C FZ(E)+++ P HoH(Ma+++ V+) Cd *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. Exactly. A data spike can contain upto one terabyte of information. As a frame of reference the entire Encyclopedia Britannica is quite a bit less than one terabyte. The animated film "A Bug's Life" is 4.3 terabytes [don't ask what the download time on that is :) ]. One terabyte should be enough storage to include a very detailed information file and an interactive access program, or expert system. However, note the description of the Implanted Micro Computer (005.225): "Access to raw data is very different from access to learned skills or practiced training." So characters are not going to learn how to pilot a jumpcraft from their reference program, but they might learn how to read it's instruments. ALSO, a character has to take time to study the information on a dataspike before they can gain any benefit from it. >If you spend enough time pouring over it you're >bound to pick something up. Right. Then you spend your character's character improvement points (Page 006.297) to buy up your skill. "Since when did your character learn so much about GenDiver history?" "Since I've been reading their incorporate history dataspike during my down time." Kinda like a correspondence course, except the expert system would administer your test to you when you were ready. >But I guess it begs the question of whether >there can be actual "skill chips," a la Cyberpunk and Shadowrun. Programmed Reflexes are limited to 10 simple programmed responses. Of course, Moderators can introduce prototype programmed skills, or they can add "skill chips" to their games. =Rich "I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks." *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. At last! Course, their's nothing wrong with a techie being a Marshall. She'd be a techie first and a Marshall second. Rather than all Marshalls being techies. I've always like the idea of "subclasses". Characters being of one profession but having some training in another. My favorite example being a combat medic; someone who can carry their own weight in a combat situation and then stabilize the wounded afterward. =Rich "I thought I wanted a career, turns out I just wanted paychecks." *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. Colour could be good, but I'd rather see high quality b/w than medium quality colour. my .02 cs *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
