Sorry! :-( > > - Fixer That would be me. I took notes and posted them up on my webpage's section on gaming industry news (just below the article on Blue Planet going with FFG). I copied and pasted them below. Doesn't cover every little detail but I think I got the major points down. Later, PeterAmthor ------- Jeff and Greg recently did an online chat with some of the fans about the changes that will be present in the new second edition of Blue Planet and about some of the upcoming supplements. I sat in on the chat and took some notes and asked a few questions myself. Compiled here are the main points of the chat. Second edition will be in hardback form in two volumes- Players Guide and the Moderators Guide. Added will be about 50,000 more words of information, more illustrations and some streamlined rules. Some of the added information will cover the Cetaceans. Expanding on their cultural history and defining more of thier tech and how they use it. Also there will be information making it easier to make a character from this racial class and how to play them better. Several other topics will be expanded on as well but not all of them were mentioned. Rules changes. The combat system has been streamlined quite a bit. They have managed to get rid of a lot of the book keeping and table refrences but still managed to keep it lethal and somewhat realistic. The damage system is one of the areas with the most overhaul. Character creation has been balanced out to help in keeping all the characters on the same level at the start of the game. Release dates, cons, etc. BioHazard Games will have its own table at the cons where FFG is present and will still run a lot of events (something which they are known for). 2nd edition will debut at Origins 2000 this July. The long awaited and talked about Fluid Mechanics will debut at GenCon this year. Hopes are to release a new sourcebook/adventure/whatever every 3 or so months. Books in the works at the moment include New Colony (Havens sourcebook) and Posse. They also feel that by working with FFG now they will have better success considering FFGs better distribution network which leads to more market penetration. There was also some babbling about Mr Potato Head and an erector set but I think that was just sleep slipping out of everyont present. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? The post pretty much covers everything we discussed, as far as I can remember. Would it be OK if I posted these notes to the PS message boards? Oh, and the whole Mr. Potato Head/Erector Set thing was my unfortunate way of describing what Prosperity Station might look like (Greg described it as a potato shaped rock with various constructions jutting out of it...). It had nothing to do with Mr. Potato Head and erectile dysfunction. ;-) Tahnks again, Pete. - Fixer *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. They are the acknowledged leader in FCs. DaimlerChrysler and Ford are going to use their FCs and are co-investing in an electric engine subsidiary for mass production release in 2004. Ballard also bought the IP rights to a process that allows for the direct feed of methanol right into the stack -- no on-board hydrocarbon refinery needed. Building a small and cheap enough refinery to split the hydrogen from gasoline or other hydrocarbons was a major get-to-market stumbling block. Now, the only requirement is the use of methanol, which is mostly refined from natural gas. The major automakers now only have to tweak their current ICE models to burn methanol alongside the new FCs in order to get the gas stations on board to carry the stuff for Joe Consumer, I would suspect. Tokyo Gas & Power just cut a deal with Ballard to build individual apartment units. They just hook them up to the gas line and out comes some CO2, electric power and hot water for the water heater. Supposedly, when a FC emits CO2, it is at way less emission levels than a comparable ICE/gas turbine would relative to the energy released. There is currently an investor mania for FC industries according to this article: http://quicken.excite.com/investments/news/story/djbn/?story=/news/stories/d j/20000120/bt20000120001873.htm&symbol=BLDP At 10:16 AM 1/21/00 -0500, you wrote: >With the recent discussion of tech levels, I found this interesting; Motorola >has developed miniature fuel cells for laptops and cell phones. > >http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/nm/20000119/tc/tech_motorola_2.html > >Cheers, >Ron > >-- >`The time has come.' the Walrus said, >`To talk of many things: > Of shoes-and ships-and sealing wax- >Of cabbages-and-kings...' Lets see... 1) Attributes will be zero based like in the Dream Pod 9 games and Ars Magica. Scales will no longer be used. 2) Skills will range from 0 to 10. 3) The target number for tasks will be Skill + Attribute + modifiers. 4) A player rolls a number of d10s equal to his Aptitude for a give task (1-3 dice) and takes the best roll. 5) Damage will be defined by 3 levels of wounds (light, serious, and critical ). There is no limit to the number of wounds a person can have and levels do not add up. (2 lights /= serious) For example, a person could have 2 serious and a light wound. 6) The target number for damage will be the damage rating of the weapon - (armor and toughness). Players roll 3d10 against this target number and for each die under the target number, they will cause 1 level of damage. For weapons whose number is above 10 after modifiers will cause 1 critical wound automatically and could cause a second wound. That's all that I can remember. Nothing slows down the start of an adventure or campaign more than only having one book for everyone to generate their characters from. (of course we'd like all your players to be so excited about BP that they all rush out and buy a copy!)
