Wow! Where do you find these kids? That's a _very_ insightful position, and one which the BP universe doesn't always make (for me, there are many severe questions, over and above the ecologocal ones, that can be explored in the BP universe). Must be true what they say about home-schooled kids. You can find out more about Rockford HOUSE at http://members.nbci.com/rockfordhouse -- FYI, I'm the webmaster for the organization. :) I figure we're going to have a lot of in and out of character discussions of this sort of thing; I'm going to push for in-character. That kind of discussion teaches the kids a lot, as well as the GM :), plus gets the players providing most of the action. What can I say, I'm a lazy GM, and like to sit back and watch the players run with it. My own son, age 11, FYI, has drawn up rough sketches for converting a Razor scooter to ducted-fan drive, and made his die roll for his character to build one. It won't go over 30 kph and the batteries only last about an hour, but it's a cool thing to have anyway :). I'm planning several scenarios right now. A few roughs: * Bullies: A local well-to-do and well-placed family has a couple of kids who like lording it over the other residents of Newport. The dolphin members of this family don't approve of such things, so they could be allies, if handled properly. The bullies could also be Incorporate kids, from one of the Incorporates with a presence in Newport, in which case there's all sorts of complications. * Ghost Town: The kids know of a ghost town on the island, that they've been forbidden to go to, as it's considered dangerous. Of course they're going to sneak off to it. What they find there may range from pharium runners to aborigines to pre-Abandonment artifacts, or may just be a lot of junk and ruins. The repercussions of their illicit visit will vary according to whether it's discovered or not. * Field trip: The kids go on a field trip up to Prosperity Station. Anybody see the Zenon movies on Disney Channel? *snicker* * Floating Island: A local scavenger has been building his own island, using refuse and recycled materials. The pontoons are plastic containers filled with air and sealed, bundled with scraps of fishnet and cargo webbing. He's run into trouble, however, as now that his island has become self-sufficient, at least for a population of one, a local small-time pharium dealer wants to use it as a storage area and base of operations. The scavenger has become friends with the kids earlier, and doesn't want to go to the GEO because he used to be connected with the NRM or some other terrorist organization, before he joined the Church of the Whalesong Theogony and became a pacifist. There may still be outstanding warrants against him. * Lost Kids: A couple of very young children wander off into a bad area of the island. The authorities forbid any other kids to go looking for them, but native culture says everybody helps. Do the players defy the GEO and follow native rules, or do they defy their cultural heritage and follow the Earther ways? Either way, there's going to be consequences. If they go out and don't find the kids, there's going to be conflict between their parents and the GEO patrol. If they do find the kids, that'll keep them more or less out of trouble, but the GEO patrol will be watching them more closely thereafter. If they don't go out, other native kids may treat them as traitors. Now it mention about gene spliced humans, You think that those corporations would tinker a human to survive in the waters of this world. A girl that could breathe underwater and swim and withstand the great pressures and depths, This would be she would have a have hyped up metabolic rate. Which that she would have to eat her body weight in protein daily, Luckily fish is high in protein. Also this female would have to strong enought to kick the crap out of undersea creatures in this water world, *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
