What's new? The Trauma Unit- Now featuring basic info and an adventure seed for a Mars- based incorporate, Mariner Valley Optics. Expect more stuff related to this incorporate on the Trauma Unit in the future. Also, an adventure hook involving a prototype jetbike and artificial intelligence has been added. Both articles are Access Denied. The Casualties' Gadgets - An outrageous jetbike has been added. Full specs are coming soon, but enough information should be available to make this useful for GMs who need a nice, cinematic, (and possibly lethal) piece of hardware for players to drool over. :-) Tun Kai Poh's Fishhooks and Live Bait- The Director's Cut of the Undercurrents adventure _Flight Hazards_ is up as Fishhook 3 and marked as Access Denied. This contains an adventure and pre-made characters, so the adventure is ready to use out of the box--er... ^_^ Also, _A Perfect Offering_ has been added--a short story about a burned out musician. Many thanks to Jerome Darmont for including a link to the ISLOPC on his excellent French BP page. You can check his site out at: http://fly.to/bleue.planete A links page is coming soon. It will feature gaming, science fiction and BP site links. If you have a BP or gaming site and want it linked to from this links page, send mail to klegman.1@osu.edu and let me know! Some annoyances in a few parts of the website still exist, but are being taken care of. If there's something you would like to see added, or if there's something you just can't stand, let me know and I'll get to work on it. ------------------------------------------------------------------- --Dave "The last bullet's for me!" Okay, *this* is what I've been looking for! I've been begging people for some combat sheet I knew I swa long ago and though was real cool, but then disappeared. Since combat so confuses me, this sheet went a long way in explaining what the hell happens when triggers get pulled. It took me 45 minutes of searching the message posts on the Blue Planet site (thank god for record keepers! =) ), but I found it. the addy of the combat sheet site is ftp://thor.flashpt.com/pub/blueplanet/combat-sheet.pdf I really liked this sheet, created by Wordman (http://pobox.com/~wordman) and I would like to remind people that it exists and perhaps get other people's thoughts on its usefulness. Thank you for allowing me this slight advertisment, but I've been searching for a while for this, and I'm very glad I found it and it's still posted. Adam, You write: If the origin of species lies in random mutations over millions and millions of years then why does the fossil record show sudden explosions of new species usually following cataclysmic events? >>>>The answer to your question has two parts. First, these "sudden" changes themselves represent thousands or even millions of years. Second, following such a cataclysmic event, the number of open niches increases dramatically, and adaptive radiation takes advantage of the reduced competition to fill them. Maybe we possess the genetic codes in dormant form to grow tails or feathers or whatever we need in response to climactic changes and it is these changes and not random mutation that drives evolution. >>>>Um...not if anything we know about genetics and natural selction is true. in a controlled laboratory experiment of simulated climactic changes susan lindquist of the university of chicago was able to cause fruit flies to undergo such changes within a few generations. >>>>Just what changes occured? There are lots of organisms, especially insects, that have genetic programming that is only expressed under certain environmental conditions. It is believed that such hidden genetic information represents past adaptations that serve to enhance survival often enough as to have been maintained in the genome by natural selection. Unless such conditions/adaptaions lead to a changes in the freguency of genes within a population's genepool, evolution is not occuring.
