NEW YORK, Feb 26 (Reuters Health) -- Japanese researchers have genetically engineered rice seeds that contain three times more dietary iron than conventional rice. The seeds, which contain a soybean gene, could produce rice so iron-enriched that a single bowl would provide one-third to one-half of the daily dietary iron adults need for good health. Here's the latest Colonial Times report on the story of the Zion Music Festival. I'm attempting to write a short novel set in Kingston during the Festival, and that may eventually show up here. Emphasis on the "eventually"... Kai Poh, Malaysian Lagomorph * * * Incorporates Issue Travel Warning For Kingston KINGSTON: Fearful of an increased native insurgent and ecoterrorist presence in the normally Incorporate-friendly colonial town, Hanover Industries and Lavender Organics have issued travel warnings to their citizens in Kingston. An estimated ten to fifteen thousand visitors have arrived in Kingston for the Zion Music Festival, including at least a thousand natives from various hotspots in the Pacifica Archipelago. Rumors of an "ecoterrorist convention" have circulated on the street ever since the festival was announced at the end of 2198. Hanover Industries spokesperson Gertrude Baum said: "We advise all Hanover citizens in Kingston to spend their off-duty hours only within the Volkhaus arcology, until the festival is over in two weeks. During this time, additional security measures will be taken at important facilities, including Kingston Spaceport." She refused to comment on whether or not Asuka Schneider's highly anticipated concert would be canceled because of security problems. The sold-out concert is scheduled to take place in the Hydrodome on the final day of the festival. Lavender Organics security captain Karim Shah announced that LavOrg citizens were advised against visiting the Incorporate's facilities in Kingston in the immediate future. When asked about why the warnings were only being issued now, he said: "We had already anticipated some additional security demands, but recent events have forced us to upgrade our risk estimates." In response to the Incorporate announcements, NRM spokesperson Thomas Strong denied that there was any threat of ecoterrorist attacks, and insisted that the NRM was capable of ensuring peace and order in Kingston. The number of Incorporate citizens applying for reassignment from Kingston skyrocketed following the recent slaying of tribal reggae musician Ruth Noa by the Hanover Security Service. The killing has sparked outrage in the native community, and ecoterrorist band Poseidon's Price is rumored to be coming to the Zion Music Festival to perform a memorial concert for Noa. - Gail Arthur, CTN/net ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. Well, I just ran my first session of Blue Planet, using the CORPS rules system. It was the Natural Instincts adventure from the Blue Planet website. The players are camped out inside the ripped-up stealthcraft (after cleaning it up, of course), which made a good stopping place. They discovered the bodies, etc., put on the BDUs and stuff from the dead soldiers, then one of the players realized that might not be such a hot idea...still some argument though, about half the PCs are wearing them still. The players have decided that the soldiers must have been killed by a Silva, or some type of monkey-human hybrid, which isn't far off. Its a pretty intuitive guess, since the only clues I gave them were those in the adventure so far, which point to some type of intelligent animal. They like the adventure so far, BTW. This campaign has come upon me pretty quickly, due to the sudden suspension of another player's campaign, so I tried to order Archipelago from my local hobby shop(something I've been meaning to do for a while, but never got around to). Unfortunately, they've been unable to find a copy so far. I guess I'll order direct from Biohazard... I also have some Blue Planet related CORPS stuff which will hopefully appear at http://www.antcrc.utas.edu.au/~jason_ga/corps/ soon. -Andy *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. They actually have these crop seeds which are designed to sterilize themselves before maturing. Big uproar a little while back. Mosanto is a much bigger candidate for Fischer Foods. What's the point in having seeds that sterilize themsleves? Why would people buy them? The name of the company is Mosanto? That's not a typo, is it? Tell me it's not supossed to be Monsanto. So what's the composition of the party, and where are > you planning your campaign to go? Party composition: Two midget Private Eyes (Real Men) A World-Class Geneticist (Real Roleplayer) An amoral computer hacker (Real roleplayer/loonie) A GEO Covert Op? (Real loonie) Might change his character There will probably be some additions to this when some of our 4 occasional players show up. Of course, none of these characters were made with the Blue Planet rules, so they won't quite fit in the professions given. As to where the campaign's headed...I don't know. Its really dictated by what the PCs want to do; I throw various scenario hooks into the mix and see which ones they bite. In the short term, depending on what exactly happens, I'll probably expand on their conflict with Gendiver. The campaign will be based on Nova Mare that's about all I'm certain of, and it could change soon. > Just a helpful reminder, we have scenario hooks and source material at > Dave Klegman's BP fan site*... the page says it was last updated Feb > 10th but there've been changes since then - Dave just forgot to change > the update date. Yeah, I've got it bookmarked. I'll probably use the scenario about the garden of Eden thing and the pomegranate some time(but not soon; I want to save the aborigines for a while) and I know I'll use the crashed VTOL as a plot hook sometime. If we generate any interesting backgrounds or adventures, I'll post them to the list. > Kai Poh, Malaysian Lagomorph -Andy *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
