The primary reason for reporting firing a missile release is that missiles are stupid. In other words, they don't care who they lock on to. The prime scenario where this comes into play is historical in nature when air-to-air missiles were rear aspect only with a very small envelope for firing. It was a call to a friendly that was concerned with a bandit on his tail to shift his attention from the enemies aircraft to the missile in the air. Consider one friendly is being chased by a bandit. Friendly #2 maneuvers into the cone for firing. Normally, this will put both aircraft in front of him within the seeker head limits of the missile, i.e. not a good thing. The missile will report a lock by a tone in the pilot's helmet. The question is, what aircraft is it locked up on? Friendly #2 would tell the other friendly to "Break ." When the friendly aircraft moved outside the seeker head limits of the missile, Friendly #2 would call "Fox 2." It's more of a warning than anything. It's actually voiced from right under your epiglotis; start with an "uh" like you got poked in the stomach, and follow it with "eee". Damn hard for native english speakers, and most of them use the "'wee' really fast" method. '#' try to pronounce the letter 'H' while hocking up a loogie. If you don't want to try that, just pronounce it as an 'H' and you're not too far off "oy" as in "boy" The first pronunciation listed will be the anglicized _Clockwork Orange_ style, the latter will be actual Russian (or the best I can do with ASCII).
