As for where you can get a copy, I'd assume you can get it through Amazon or a local bookstore. Your address implies that you're at a university, which may actually have the novel in the library. I know my university's library has the movie, translated from Russian... all 4 hours of it. Haven't watched it yet. As I said, the book is a bit complex. I read it for a Sci-Fi literature class, and enjoyed it, but it was the only paper I didn't get an "A" on. Lem throws a lot of new terms at you at once. Now that I think of it, the storms in the book could give you an idea of the type of weather on Poseidon: far more violent than anything Earth has, with some wierd occurences thrown in. Oh, and somebody mentioned my web page. Sorry it hasn't been updated, but I've been very busy lately. Once I get these next 2 Math tests out of the way, I'll try to post some campaign ideas and my revisions to the Sea Lion rules. I've dropped my most time-consuming class, but I don't know if I'll have any free time even now. Design projects are due soon. -Ghost *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. The book is a difficult read(it's a There's a great movie too. Unfortunately, there are a couple of downsides: it's Russian, and the subtitles of the version I saw were white, often against white backgrounds. The other big drawback is that it's still psycological. No X-Wings coming in with guns blazing. > an interesting idea to apply to BP... do the xenosilicates cause any > effects on the planet itself beyond terraforming and ecology? When Activision lost the FASA license for MechWarriors they grabbed another license rather than try to build a background/world themselves. I want to say it's from Dream Pod 9 but I'm not sure. There have been a couple of novels based on the RPG, I remember reading one a few years ago. I don't know if they've done a wargame or a miniatures game but it wouldn't be unlikely. > On that note, what kind of names for water planets have there been over the > years? Arthur C. To clear things up once and for all: 1) "Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri" was a computer game made by Looking Glass (same folks who did System Shock, Flight Unlimited and the Ultima:Underworld games). The game featured PBA's from a first-person perspective and you played the game's hero through a series of linked missions. No paper roleplaying game connected to this game. 2) "Heavy Gear" by Dreampod 9 is a computer game, a non-collectible card game, pencil & paper RPG and tactical miniature wargame. The planet that the games take place on is called Terra Nova. ------------------------ My opinion: "Terra Nova" is a great computer game. "Heavy Gear" is a so-so computer game. "Heavy Gear" is made by a Canadian company, that's a good thing. The bad thing is, the quality of DP9 stuff's been slipping lately. 2nd Edition "Heavy Gear" RPG contained a heap of silly mistakes and was a big disappointment. How do I know about this stuff? I own everthing mentioned above. ;) -Gerard *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. I will be sending some of the first "rules" and background info up to my web site soon, but most of it will be useless unless you own the game.. as I only have a limited amount of time to write in :( Gladius Dei *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
