I for one find real-world plans a very useful resource when GMing. Perhaps we could put the list on stormsurge or somewhere similar? Here's what 10 min with Google gave me: 2 modern oceanographic research ships http://www.sio.ucsd.edu/shipsked/Melville/Deckplans.html http://www.sio.ucsd.edu/shipsked/NewHorizon/Deckplans.html (the Scripps site also has lots of other good info, and photos of their Flip-ship http://www-mpl.ucsd.edu/facilities/flip/flip_combo.html) long-range dive charter ship http://www.ioexplorer.com/IOShip_Decks.htm dive charter schooner http://www.kararu.com/vessel/deckplans.shtml Poor old Titanic http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/deckplans/deckplans.shtml A commercial service that will send you paper plans at $30 per plan. Large database of plans but none online, good if you have something specific in mind. http://www.taubmansonline.com/index.html Any additions? I could really use some oil-rig plans. Just finished running it. It rocked. Best 1-year campaign module I've ever had the pleasure to run. Back on topic, and related to that: Jerome, your Greater White scenario was very good, and nice formatting too. It would make a good tournament module with the addition of pre-gen characters and some maps - we can't get you over to Gencon UK? Map-wise we could base something on the excellent tramp freighter floorplans out of Mountains of Madness for the ship's layout. OK, so we'd need to swap out the 1920's oil-burning boiler and replace it with a fusion generator, and then add some navigation electronics to the bridge. Maybe some stabilising thrusters and depth sonar dome on the hull. Tournament wise, the scenario is very well-contained, and has potential for some excellent tense moments. " Sir, depth sonar detects a seamount rising dead-ahead" "That's no seamount! It's a..." The characters were a mix of just-generated characters (for friends) and two templates from the PG (these templates work quite well, though some are obviously incompatible). Now the maps. I'm clearly no artist. If anybody draws maps for the scenario, I include them on the spot! :) > we can't get you over to Gencon UK? The probability is close to zero, I couldn't even attend a con in my own city last week-end! :) >Tournament wise, the scenario is very well-contained, >and has potential for some excellent tense moments. Got some links, am checking them out now and will post any decent ones in this message later. Also, it occurred to me that my cousin is a professional deep-sea diver for a Louisiana-based company, in which he does many things including sub-surface work with rigs. I don't know if he'd have access to any plans or not, though. I'll try contacting him. In the meantime, here are some links: http://www.diver.net/kathy - photos, largely undersea lifeforms http://www.rigzone.com/ - you have to get a (free) membership, but TONS of stuff dealing with off-shore petro (I didn't know Mitsubishi designed oil rigs!) http://www.barges.com/ - as the name implies, barges. Big, big, big barges. http://www.rigmuseum.com/ - not complete yet http://www.oil.com/ - tons of links - I get lost quickly http://www.letourneau-inc.com/ - "a leading manufacturer of heavy equipment for the mining, forestry, intermodal and marine industries" - prints available in PDF If anyone else wants to do more searching, here's a list of some of the 'popular' offshore designs you can search for: MITSUBISHI MD-T-76J LETOURNEAU 116-C F&G (L-900) ENHANCHED PACESETTER SELF ERECTING TENDER BARGE E&W SEDCO 700 MITSUBISHI MD-501 LETOURNEAU 82-SD-C DONHAISER DMI-85 PACE MARINE 85 PACE ATWOOD SUB 70 TRANSWORLD --Charles -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mail2Web - Check your email from the web at http://www.mail2web.com/ . *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. I've just bumed around ** Heh, well I don't have that many ;) Course, I'm only 23. :) I DID have a brief stint with a startup ".com", but being as much of a startup as it was, I only got paid USD$1000/mo for almost 100hrs/wk. I never did get that Mercedes... *shrugs* I was briefly 'famous' (in a niche community) for a while, and mingled with some of the other big names in that community, but outside of that community, no one knows who they are ;) I came across BP through my current BP GM, Dave Crowell (from the list). I wanted something relatively heavily scifi, and he offered this. It's amazing to see all of the people who have so much relevant real-life experience to this game; how technical and realistic it all is.
