Apparently, researchers at the Naval Medical Research Centre in Maryland have injected cultures of of gut bacteria which dissolve hydrogen into pigs in an experimental test. Their apparent reasoning is that deep dives would be made safer if the level of dissolved hydrogen in the blood could be reduced. Those pigs not given the bacteria apparently are twice as likely to suffer from decompression sickness. I think the latest issue of New Scientist has the full story. If anyone else has any further information on this, I would be interested to hear about it.
