I apologize in advance. :-) I was reading a recent National Geographic article about great white sharks. I knew that great whites had a white belly and dark colored top, but I had never seen the pattern up close. There was a very clear picture of a great white with the article, and I was shocked at how similar the pattern resembled that of an orca! The eye patch was lower and blended into the belly pattern, and the dorsal fin saddle was missing, but other than that, it was almost identical. I always thought that the orca's markings were simply decorative at best; I never really thought they had any sort of camouflage function. But the two most ferocious predators in the seas sharing similar markings can't be a coincidence. Does anyone know what the significance, if any, of the orca's markings? Thanks! - Fixer :-) *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
