They are the people called was something starts eating a farmer's crops or a research facility is overrun by stick monkeys. As PEST teams are often the first humans to actively deal with a particular bit of wildlife, they are often staffed with scientific team members and record the entire mission. As Poseidon's wildlife is often dangerous, many employee's of PEST die in the line of work. The means that only the washouts of society actually work for PEST and there is a high turn over rate. From failed miners to med-school dropouts, the only common factor among PEST teams is that they are composed of people who have failed to find normal work. PEST inc. also has service contracts with many of the Incorporates as PEST teams tend to be cheap and expendable compared to the Incorps internal staff. The Mission: An offshore Biogene facility that is studying the reefs has been infested with large lizards. The teams mission is to clear out the lizards without damage to the facility. What is really going on at the facility : The lizards are the result of some genetic goofing around. They were suppose to be destroyed, but the tech in charge of destroying them, instead hid them in her work area. (She was a bit crazy) The lizards rapidly grew and mulitplied. Eventually, they escaped into the air ducts. It is at this point that they started appearing all over the facility and the evacuation began. In the chaos, the tech managed to stay aboard the facility to help her friends. She is also the one who poured acid over the powercables and make all the holes in the walls and floor. The Team: This was the team's first time working together. As PEST teams suffer a high attrition rate, this is rather common. M. Monroe : Monroe is a former Gendiver operative who worked on Earth under the name of Blackbird. Instead of taking Gendiver's usual retirement package, he decided to go into hiding on Poseidon. He joined PEST as a way of supporting himself without drawing Gendiver's attention. K. Tinlatch and B. Travis : This is a pair of Zero Nation terrorists that have inflitrated PEST to provide a cover for their terrorist activities against. Their contact, known as Blackbird (who isn't Monroe), told them that Biogene is working on a Biogentic weapon and that they should steal samples of it and destroy the research facility so that an antidote can not be created. B. Olag : Olag is a Hydrospan Operative. His mission is to steal a sample of a new Pain Inhibitor, that is rumored to be under developement at the facitily, along with the research data and to destroy as much of the research as possible without blowing his cover. He also has 20,000cs GEO to use as bribes if needed. P. Zabrina : Zabrina is a Gendiver Operative who is hunting down a rogue Gendiver operative known as Blackbird. Zabrina's only clue is that Blackbird is an artist. (This actually came up in the afternoon game) Zabrina has 15,000 cs GEO to use as bribes to get other team members to help him. J. Reba : Reba is a Biogene Operative. On this mission, he is suppose to make sure that Biogene's secrets stay safe and that the facility remains intact. He has been allocated 10,000 cs GEO to use for bribes. About now, you are wondering why so many Incorporate operatives and terrorists are on this team. Well, the reason is simple. GEO Internal Security has long known that PEST is the perfect cover for various Incorporate acts of corporate espionage/sabatage. So GEO IS has its own operatives in PEST and was able to manipulate the team assignments so that all of these operatives and terrorists were together on the same team, because.... C. Tanner : Tanner is the team leader and a GEO operative. His mission is to clean house. He is to determine who Monroe really is and eliminate the rest of the team members listed above. PEST's high death rate makes such assignments easy and he has done this many a times. However, the only person not on Tanner's hit list is E. Sascha, a large feline. E. Sascha (Taken from the character sheet): Sascha is a member of Internal Affairs that has been sent to investigate C. Tanner. It is believed that C. Tanner is a GEO agent under deep cover. The exact department that he belongs to is unknown. What is know is that a large number of Incorporate operatives that have infiltrated PEST have ended up dead or have disappeared while under the command of C. Tanner. A Justice Department investigation turned up evidence that C. Tanner was responsible for those deaths as well as the deaths of 60 civilians. Your job is to determine if C. Tanner is a rogue GEO operative and collect evidence to be used against him. You must also prevent further loss of civilian life. It is believed that many members of your team are Incorporate agents, so you must be careful. The Columbian government could not protect the ranchers, so the ranchers began supporting a "small group of outlaws" that is now an 8,000-man militia that has somewhere between $200 million and $1 billion in financial holdings in hotels, cocaine, international bank accounts, shopping centers, and other property. The Columbian government is now attempting to figure out how to deal with and/or dismantle this extra governmental organization. The whole story is here: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/08/08/international/08COLO.html So, brining this back to Blue Planet, it struck me that this was nearly a textbook example of how an Incorp might develop. The local property owners do not trust the government to protect them. So, they turn to someone who will. 'Tropism' is a term used in biology to indicate the mechanism whereby an organism is able to detect and respond to an external stimulus. Phototropism is the detection and response to light - e.g. a shoot growing towards the light. Geotropism, these days usually called gravitropism, is the detection and response to the force due to gravity - e.g. a shoot growing 'up' rather than 'down' (which they do even in the dark). Oh god of laughter help me to be brave. And know a grim-set face is rarely right For gravity may drag me to the grave, But levity will lift me to the light!
