I saw BP at GenCon and am a new player/GM. I have read a good deal of the book, I have Acripelago coming on Saturday. I am very interested in designing a ecoterrorist and or incorporate espionage campaigne for my players. Would anyone with any ideas or experience in these areas share some stuff with me? Or any specific parts of the book I should read up on more? Thanks a lot everyone... - sorry a system error has occured "hacker" error type 11 *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. I am french, and not really understand the meaning of this word, except that this is related to a civilization or a medieval armor. To come back with the characters, when I created this campaign, I just read the Blue Planet rulebook one time fully, but I really read fast the rules themselves (I am reading them more seriously now), so I do not create the characters from the rules but more from the background of Blue Planet. That's why the characters were not created from an archetype. But if you (and all you guys that are reading this mail) see an archetype that fits for these, you are welcome to comment ! The ecoterrorist template served as a guide, but the character is not a full-fledged terrorist. He is a writer. Your conspiracy-laden campaign certainly has that quality! From: Ml10@aol.com Sent: Friday, August 14, 1998 11:02 PM To: blue_planet@MPGN.COM Subject: [BLUE PLANET] - some thoughts on character creation Hi All, I've spent the last couple of weeks working on a chargen program to help me out creating NPC for my upcoming campain. True, it would have been faster just to do it all by hand, but I am a SE and I write programs for the heck of it. It also gave me an excuse to learn javascript and see how far I could stretch it. (side note: I have concluded that javascript is only good for web tricks. It blows as a serious programming language. ) By working on this project, I have become real familar with the BP character generation system. No matter how much I look at the chargen system, it simply amazes me. It is so simple and elegant, yet it forces one to think of one's character's background and who he (or she) is as the character is being created. The system has a very organic feel to it. I feel as if I am growing a character as opposed to creating one. When I create a character in another game, I either need to have a very good idea of what the character is going to be like before I begin to determine the stats or I need to make up some darn good excuses for why the stats turned out the way that they did. But with BP, by the time I have added up the last total, I have a real good idea of where the character came from. Many games these days treat character generation as a hassle and try to get it over with as quickly as possible. "Allocate x points, make up a quick background so you can get to the angst and lothing part". Some games even advertise that character generation is short and fast. The end result is a system that is boring. The BP system is fun. It still takes me about 1/2 hour to create a character from scratch, but it is a fun process so I don't mind the amount of time that it takes. Just some thoughts, Mike Z ps. I don't plan on making my chargen program available to the public. It is web based and would be extremely slow over a modem. It is currently over 300k and I estimate that it will reach 500k before I finish. I am writting it as an experiment to find the limitations of javascript. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@mpgn.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
