Rather than expensive figs which take forever to paint, lots of space to store and are a pain to haul around the figs are printed on small cardboard disks (think Pogs although I cringe at the reference). Colorful circular "counters" which you move across the "board" by flipping. When one "lands" on another they fight. It's a simple system which has a surprising amount of strategy behind it. Being a big fan of James Earnest games I usually equate it to one of his. > -----Original Message----- > From: Seahawk [mailto:seahawk@visi.com] > On Mon, 20 Aug 2001, Manos, Christopher P wrote: > > I really don't know what UP is. The game was originally created by him about two years ago however the mechanics weren't as smooth as we would like and he shelved the game in favor of other projects. The idea refused to die a quiet death and he brought it back out four or five months ago and started working on it. Being a big fan of DiskWars he wanted to meld the ease of play of that game with a quick playing submarine game. At GenCon he pitched the game to Greg as well as doing some playtesting with listmembers as part of our Official List Event(tm) for the con. There were some good ideas and everyone seemed to have a great time. We've been playtesting and tweaking every week or so however I don't want to promise any delivery date at this point. As usual we won't let it out until it's ready but it promises to be great fun.
