I am thinking about running a Blue Planet/World of Hurt campaign focused on autodueling along the highways of the North American Free Zones. Now, the difficulty in this is that I haven't been able to find much information on the North American Free Zones. We know that Marshall Church is from the Idaho Free Zone, we know that much of California was pummeled by major earthquakes before the Blight, we know that there is a U.S. government, and that more frequent and powerful tropical storms have battered the Gulf and Atlantic coasts but that is about it. Taking off from there, my thought is to set the campaign somewhere in and around the Great Plains, a region largely free of settlement from the Mississippi to the Colorado Rockies and from North Texas to the North Pole. It would be a region dotted with enclaves and overseen by nominal governments attempting to reassert their authority. It would be a land roamed by herds of buffalo, antelope, wild cattle and horses, and eco-nomads. A land tenuously crossed by trade highways that the enclaves and the U.S. Government struggle to keep safe and open. Sort of Mad Max meets Blue Planet. What are your thoughts on running such a campaign? Take a look at the Gurps: Autoduel supplements. They are along a similar vein. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. Especially since the catastrophe in the autoduel world is "the grain blight", a disease that devestates world food crops. Not as seriously as the blight in BP, but definate parrallels. ===== Troy Gustavel 5825 Bolender Rd. You've got a Poseidon like feel with a decidedly non-Poseidon setting. Sounds groovy. One book that you should definetely pick up if your going to do this is "Neo-Tribes" by R. Talsorian for their Cyberpunk game. Actually, it's a good buy for any BP player, because it's the Nomad sourcebook for cyberpunk. It talks about Nomad groups large and small, how they organize, what their lives are like, samples on how to create characters in the style....and so on....it's a book that can really make the cross to Blue Planet with very little work. It could really help you when generating NPCs and NPC Groups for this setting. Personally, I think if you are going to go for a more Car Wars feel, that you should look at the original Car Wars books not the GURPS stuff. I feel they convey the feeling of the setting your looking for more. Also, IMHO, the GURPS stuff just doesn't cut it system-wise. IF your looking for a system to use to make the whole "vehicular" aspect of the setting easier on you, port it to Silhouette (DP9's Engine...and yes, I realize I'm a walking, shameless plug for that system. I geniunely love it). Also, the Heavy Gear setting by DP9 has some overtures of what you discussed in your intial e-mail...(Badlands, anyone?)
