I feel they convey the feeling of the setting your looking for more. Also, IMHO, the GURPS stuff just doesn't cut it system-wise. If you're going for world background, I think the GURPS Autoduel book is a must have right now, since it updates a lot of the world. In addition, they skip a lot of the crap that Craig Sheeley inserted into the game. The fact that the game had Sheeley as a major author before the last hiatus cursed it, as he had his pet "faction" that he attempted to insert EVERYWHERE in the game (i.e., ASP, and it's Cobra Commander-ripoff leader). Also with Autoduel don't forget that the Grain Blight in Car Wars led to the nuclear war of 2012, though it had minimal global effect since most of the nukes were soaked by the ABM systems. I love the idea of crossing over Autoduel and Blue Planet. It might even encourage me to run BP, since my buddy Oz is getting sucked into it, too. (To whomever ran the BP game at Origins that Dan Oz won: you've created a monster.) It might even encourage me to run BP, since my buddy Oz is getting sucked into it, too. ================================= That's what is drawing me in to. One of my players mentioned an interest in an Aftermath game. He wasn't interested in gaming on Poseidon, but he'll probably go for A World of Hurt. I'm definitely planning on using BP v.2's Synergy mechanics. I'll check out the Car Wars autodueling materials (a friend recently recommended those as all around good supplements and proved it by converting one for a fantasy game). I'll also be checking out my Aftermath and Moreau Project materials and any other post-Apocalyptic materials. What I'm really interested in hearing from you folks, though, is your impression of the conditions in North America in the late 22d Century of Blue Planet. I had an idea of what I'd run, if I was going to run for Oz and he was up for this type of campaign: It starts off on Earth, in North America (since that's what I know best, natch). He starts off as a freelance autoduellist/mercenary type, perhaps. Here's how I see North America: CANADA: With Canada you've ended up with metropolitan areas on either coast. In the middle, though, the wilderness has taken back over, along with the native groups. The blight killed the grain crops, so the south central section is still wiped out. The border is fairly porous with the United States, with ecoterrorists, biker gangs, indigenous populations and the such moving back and forth. That is, it's porous except around Quebec, which is fairly highly militarized. The Incorps occasionally make pushes for the natural resources up there but often find them very hazardous to deal with and remote from any form of "civilization". GEO keeps an eye out to make sure what's left of the wilderness is preserved. UNITED STATES: Has a similar situation to Canada. You've got sprawling megacities up both coasts, down in Texas near the Gulf, and up around Chicago on the Great Lakes. The central portion of the country is blasted and desolate. Certain areas - Minnesota, Hawaii, Texas, Utah - are semi-autonomous, determined to do their own thing. The Incorps own large portions of the coasts, but in the middle they're often found fighting a running battle with biker gangs, terrorists, revolutionaries, and even GEO occasionally. GEO desperately tries to save what's left of the ecosystem near the smoggy East Coast and has draconian pollution laws in California. There's an active militia movement trying to "restore the US" with covert backing of the US government. Other groups advocate everything from communism to anarchy. You find that almost everyone carries a gun, and most vehicles are armed for protection. Some areas - such as the east coast - most guns are hidden, but assumed, and there's a lot of tension waiting to explode into violence. In other areas - such as Texas - all guns must be openly carried, and the populace has more of a "good ole boy" or "an armed society is a polite society" attitude. MEXICO: Mexico was devastated by the Blight. Mexico City was practically depopulated by disease and mass starvation. For all intents and purposes GEO runs Mexico; they control the coastal resorts, and protect the Indian population of the Yucatan. The Mexican government simply tries to stay alive and feed what's left of the population. Numerous bandit gangs fill the countryside, often raiding north into the United States. THE CAMPAIGN: You start off just trying to survive and make a living when the PC gets a job offer. He takes it to find that it involves helping guard a convoy across the US. The convoy is attacked by everything from militias to Incorps, and the PC finds that it's a decoy - or, at least, all it's guarding is a small package. He saves the package and manages to deliver it - to GEO. By this point, he's made enemies across the continent, from Incorps to terrorists, and things are a little hot for him. Depending on what happens, other factions of the UN might also not like him. The GEO offers him his pay, or if he'd rather, passage to Poseidon to get away from some of the fanatics with guns. If he takes the pay we reconsider the campaign at that point (or just kill him). If he takes the passage he gets a chance to go to Poseidon with limited knowledge and skills and a whole new world to explore. I haven't actually read the latest GURPS autoduel as a quick glance seemed to be the same stuff as all my car wars stuff. What have they updated? What stuff did this Sheeley guy add? What books did he work on? You obviously are more familiar with the line than I am, and I am fairly curious.
