If I remember correctly, Dolphins and Orcas are conscious breathers and if they go unconscious, they will stop breathing and suffocate. Does this mean that if they fail their stun check by 5 or more that they will die from suffocation? Well - to be fair to them, Games Workshop merely recognised that: 1 - students have no money, 2 - 10-year-old kids (whose parents *do* have money) would also enjoy wargaming, as long as the rules were simplified, and the whole thing made flashier. Not that I really play much new GW stuff... I could jump in and answer that I think. Yes they are concious breathers and hence they would suffocate. this is one of the reasons why we havent successfully managed to build a respirator for the dolphins. Their muscle in the blowhole is like our anal muscles. A sphinkter that is VERY powerful. So unless a paramedic or vet could find a way to pry it open and help them breathe they would die. Tiderunner. _____________________________________________________ Nokia Game kör igång igen! The diving reflex would keep them from breathing water. At least until severe hypoxia sets in, at which point breathing water will be the least of their worries. I would say that stunned dolphins do not automatically start to drown, nor do Diver Aquaforms. ----- Original Message ----- From: Chris Sakal To: blue_planet@lists.ient.com Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2001 2:46 PM Subject: Re: [BLUE PLANET] - Dolphins, Orcas, and failed stun checks. Except that dolphins only need to take a breath once every half-hour or so, and probably a lot more if they're not doing anything (i.e. unconscious) so they wouldn't start to suffocate immediately - a dolphin below the water isn't breathing anyway. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well techincally that is right. They are adapted for the depths and also can save alot of oxygen provided they dont move. I still think its a 50 50 chance it can cause the fin to die. Mainly due to the stress inflicted to it. Fins in combat in aquariums has been known to die from the stress induced from a schock because it has hurt their system. But thats Rl issues.. I think I should correct myself and say it should take up to an hour before hypoxia sets in if the fin isnt moving at all. _____________________________________________________ Nokia Game kör igång igen!
