I agree. Part of it, but not much, is the alphabet. I think the main thing is that it is a fully inflected language, and you have to speak it. (Thus coming up with the right inflections as you go along.) I did it for three years at school, but never felt comfortable with it. (Although I did manage to hold a conversation in Russian when I got carted off by a policeman with a machine gun in Moscow.) Latin is also fully inflected, but you never have to *speak* it. Well, I guess unless you get an audience with the Pope. I've been trying to learn Japanese more recently (because I've had two Japanese girlfriends), and I find it rather easier than Russian, at least so far. Well, provided I'm allowed to write in kana. Speaking of languages... Poseidon native should have drifted some distance from the relevant Earth languages. Is that handled anywhere in the rules? Last I heard it was 10 billion. Though that may be referring to some other debt. I'm not entirely certain. In the interim you can hold the exoarcheolo- gists off with Freebooters, Incorporates and unfriendly Natives. However, it is a game. Yes, sorry, that's what I meant: the Australians show up with their military every time the UN asks, and are current with their dues. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. I dunno how many folks here read the RPG.NET forums, but my friend Kevin Mowery started a 80-message thread on metaplots and their flaws...and I'd love to see what Biohazard has to say about the thread. >Ugh, paleontology under water. Of course the islands have not always been above water. I *had* been thinking that Poseidon does not seem to have that many land animals to make land excavations worthwhile. Existing PC teams could be hired either as guides, transport or security (or all 3) for the dig. =Rich "We're going to need bigger guns, and more chocolate."-Dick Durkin (Stone's partner), Split Second. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
