Our players voted to try out new systems, after reviewing other games we decided amongst others to try out Blue Planet, which is proving to be very popular both with our moderators and players :-) . The game moderators running the trial groups have asked me to find out what the release schedule is for the new products, as they want me to get in the new books asap. I was told that 'First Colony?' was due out in October but I've heard nothing, and the BP website was last updated in Sept., does anyone have any information regarding revised dates for this book and the dates for the others? Also I would be interested in what style of games other groups are playing. Our two trial groups are running a trouble-shooter/agents for hire game, and the other has just started a law enforcer style game. Regards, Steven J. You can fly over anything, but you can't necessarily land anywhere, or get in under trees for people to get on or off effectively. I began considering alternate forms of transportation that could be carried inside the craft to be deployed upon arrival. For the water, this was easy: inflatable rafts. It will be awhile before I have stat assignments for any of this, but for those of you interested, I started with Zodiac of Canada. The web addy is: http://www.zodiac.ca/ If anyone else finds similar links to other companies, I would be interested in learning of them. The other problem was land transportation in remote or uninhabited areas. Feet work great for the PCs, but if they're having to transport a lot of heavy lab equipment or other cargo, difficulties can quickly arise. I'm considering something about the size of a golf cart that uses a fuel cell power source. At this point, I am planning on developing something loosely based around the remote cargo carriers seen in the movie 'Stargate', or Showtime's television series 'Stargate - SG1'. This would most likely fall under the category of Delivery Robot/Remote (PG 128). I have found few references thus far to 'utility vehicles'. Thus far I have only found this: http://www.kawasaki.com/uv/index.html I have not included aircraft because I remember seeing a reference to ultralight planes somewhere in the published material. I can't find the reference currently, but I will probably locate it again in the next day or so. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.ient.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message. I think this brings up the discussion of secrets: clearly, the horror of Lovecraft and BP comes from veiling: that is, showing a glimpse of the monstrous, hinting at it, etc. instead of just saying it. Saying it takes away its power to inspire fear. That's what's so profoundly terrifying about the Mountains of Madness: both in the book and the supplement, it takes ages for the player/reader to get to the meat; before that, it's all whispers and strangeness and silence. Scares the crap out of me every time. And hence the nice parallel that enables Cthulhuisation of the BP setting. It's like a particularly twisted campaign someone mentioned on the Space:1889 list once where a GM of a post-apocalyptic setting (I forget which one: a conventional war-ravaged Earth with players taking on roles as soldiers and such on the front lines in Europe) took his long-standing campaign abruptly left of nowhere when their commander woke them with orders early one morning and hustled them off to put down a rebellion. On a Space:1889-derived Mars full of angry, hostile Martians. Mind you, this was apparently a Twilight Zone experience for the players. Yeah, First Colony has been a production nightmare. It will be finished and off to the printer in the next couple days, but don't expect it in stores until the middle of December. "Posse," the law enforcement/crime campaign book, will follow in January. After that, we've got the "Field Guide" (flora, fauna, ecosystems, survival) slated for March, "Fin" (cetacean sourcebook) for May, and "Black Crusade" (Incorporate Security vs. GEO Internal Security espionage campaign book) for June. Both Blue Planet and UA have the similar "Damn, that's neat, but what the hell do I do know?" kind of problems because they have such wonderfully open settings. So one of UA's first supplements was a collection of short little one-shots, adventures that can be run in a sitting with pregenerated characters and all associated fun. I have to say that the book dramatically increased the number of UA games my group was willing to take part in. It made a lot of them realize that they did like both the game and the setting. A short little book that's just a collection of different short adventures would be really, really nice. and btw, are all supplements going to be hardcover? Well, I'm gonna be there too in my capacity as demo co-ordinator for the convention. If anyone wants to chat about BP I'm game but you'll have to catch me between slots (I'm demoing a couple of the games I write for). As an aside, there should be a notice board on which people can leave messages and if anyone does feel like running a game, let me know. It's too late to go in the con book but I may be able to squeeze last-minute events into the schedule.
