Only > the people on the ship, the ship, and the worm hole itself would be only > five years older. The last is the important point. The wormhole is only five years older, and it's at the same point in time at both ends. Wormholes are space-time structures, not just space ones. Thus, if you enter the 2205AD Earth wormhole, you come out in the 2700AD Poseidon one. Similarly, if you enter the 2700AD Poseidon one, you come out in 2205AD back at Earth. This does all kinds of messy things to causality and the laws of physics in general, which is why wormholes are really conjectural. However, humans could still be the Creators. Wormholes could be created in violent events. Suppose that a really big supernova made a wormhole, and blasted one end off into space while retaining the other end. You can then get back to near the supernova explosion time, and build other wormholes to get around the galaxy from there. Personally, I don't really like the idea. I probably like it more than I'd like any other answer to the 'who are the Creators?' question, though. Cosmic grandeur and cosmic horror can't be faked. (Lovecraft is a good example. The Shoggoth is supposed to be utterly horrifying, but it's basically a large jelly. Things have to be left unsaid to work.) Thus, I'm in favour of leaving the Creators shrouded in mystery. No, but I should. Someone once called the Creators "the Alien Space Bats" in reference to the originators of unlikely events in alternate history discussions. There was no specific chat topic, so discussions drifted far and wide. ;-) One thing that was discussed was the new edition of BP, specifically what changes we would like to see. I know the combat system was discussed, with Greg questioning us if we thought it was too complex or not. This particular topic drifted on to the lethality of combat, with the Biohazard dudes leaning more towards the messier side of things. I chimed in with my opinion, stating I'm more likely to run a heroic and less lethal game, but many others sided with Jeff and Greg, saying they liked the realism and the sense of self-preservation that the more lethal system encourages. This, of course, all depends on the new potential partnership, which was officially no-commented on by both Biohazard dudes. Con adventures and schedules were tied in with this as well. Also mentioned was the BP oriented board game for fighter sub combat. The game sounds pretty cool, and I hope it sees production someday. Several different AD topics were brought up, and Batuku's popularity was touched upon. Jeff pointed to Greg's genius as the originator of Batuku (as well as most of the other 'cool ideas'). All present clamored for more such cool stuff. Another topic was that of the licensing of RPG properties. This was more of a wish list of cool BP products, with a brief discussion of the recent DP9 Heavy Gear/Sony deal. Some of the fun ideas mentioned were an Attack Batuku action figure (with real squirting action!), fake Fast Fungus (a la the Green Slime toy from way-back-when), and my personal contribution: ToddToys action figures w/ rip away body parts (see 'Combat, Lethality of' discussion above ;-). Also mentioned on the wish list were BP novels. *sigh* Maybe one of these days... One other interesting topic was Greg's current contract re-negotiations with the St. Louis Rams. Greg has been out with a serious injury (chronic hangnail problems), and some scrub named Warner has replaced him at quarterback. Stay tuned to ESPN for further updates on this one. ;-) I hope we can have another chat sometime soon, possibly with a more firm topic (like say, news of BP 2nd ed.-- hint, hint :-). It was nice to chat with some of the minds behind the BP universe, and I look forward to meeting these guys in person. I *was* at Origins this past year, but I couldn't make the BP dinner. Maybe next year. - Fixer *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe from this list send mail to majordomo@lists.imagiconline.com with the line 'unsubscribe blue_planet' as the body of the message.
