I second, with one condition: No Access denied parts. It'll make the issue harder to write, but it'll be more fun for players. The personality could be a leading researcher (with secrets, of course), or a Native from Booneyville that leads the Cult of the True Poseidoners, or whatever. I couldn't wait to see the tech item. -- +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= "I never get involved in my own life. A lot of games have > funny-suits; all the races in Shadowrun, or AD&D, whereas not many have > something totally *other* > There is one serious (IMHO) consideration when role playing an "alien" be it an alien alien or another creature from our planet (a dolphin or Orca). While it may not be difficult to act (role play) in a non-standard manner. Doing things which humans may not do, the reasons for such actions may come into play. Let me give you an example. Brand (one of our playtesters in the Posse Campaign) has a concept for an alien insectoid race. One of the characteristics of the race is the desire to create a perfectly smooth, plain surface. This is a form of art for them. Insectoid: "Let me show you my great art project. I've been working on it for sixteen years." Human friend: "Okay, let's go." Insectoid: "It's over here." Human friend: "In the corridor?" Insectoid: "Yes, of course, so everyone can see it." Human friend: "I guess that makes sense." Insectoid: "Here it is." Human friend : "It's a blank wall!?" Insectoid : "Oh, thank you, thank you, I've worked so hard on it!" So for me, in order to be really role playing an alien, I need to know at least a little of why the individual acts as he or she (or it) does. Is it a racial trait or a familial trait or is this just something strange about this individual? > What about an all-cetacean combat unit? > I had thought that there were a few all cetacean units in the Peacekeepers on Earth. I agree. As a GM, I'd love to have a player play one. For myself, tho, the appeal of the cetaceans with their totally different way of living in and interacting with the same world is more appealing.
